This task requires you to demonstrate your ability to undertake primary and secondary research specifically into the Graphic Design Industry.
In order to complete some of this task I suggest you use the following website to help you with understanding the ‘opportunties’
www.lambie-nairn.com (on OC Live). Ensure you use your research skills to review the site and try and answer the questions (on task sheet)
For the second part you will need to use your research skills to try and contact graphic designers who work on producing idents. This may be easier to use the idents you selected in task 1a and find out the creators of those idents and try and contact them
You should try and obtain PRIMARY feedback from them, so consider how you approach them professionally and what questions you may want to ask them based on the guidance in the task sheet. To summarise
- Use the website (any other additional ones) to answer the guidance points on the opportunities available when creating idents
- Obtain a company name/individual’s contact details either by phone, email, address etc
- Draft some kind of email/letter/script (telephone conversation) clearly stating who you are, what College you are from, what course you are on, what you are studying and what you have been asked to do e.g. Unit Designing Idents. Inform them that you would like to ask them a few questions on what possible limitations are faced when creating idents or animation work (see guidance points)
- Obtain confirmation that it is okay to ask them questions over phone, visit them or by email
- Structure your questions clearly focussing on specifically the guidance points in the task and any other points that you may find useful in order to obtain a higher mark (mainly open questions so you can get more in-depth information). Remember you will need to record their responses somehow so see Alan for suitable equipment if not done by email
- Check all correspondence with Mark or myself to check the information being sent out is suitable and appropriate
- Record all correspondence with your client and complete a meetings log of when, where and how this task is to be carried out.
If you have any problems please seek advise and guidance from myself or Mark
